Tea on the Heath in Hatfield Heath offers a cozy, welcoming cafe experience right on Pond Lane, appealing especially to those looking for a quiet spot to unwind with a pot of tea and freshly made cakes. The place carries a charm that comes through in its thoughtful approach to tea service—pots are standard, encouraging a relaxed pace rather than a rushed cup. This small detail makes all the difference for visitors popping in for afternoon tea or a casual catch-up.

The cafe tends to attract a varied local crowd: cyclists stopping by for a refreshment break, groups ordering afternoon tea to take away, and regulars seeking hearty seasonal specials. The menu changes with the seasons, reflecting a local rhythm—light summer quiches give way to warming winter jacket potatoes with a kick. The adaptability to dietary needs is notable too, with dairy-free and vegan options handled carefully and praised by visitors.

Atmosphere here is quietly friendly and considerate. The owners have earned praise not just for the food but also their approachable, caring manner—one visitor even recalls kindness shown during a moment of feeling unwell, something that speaks to the community-minded vibe at the heart of this spot.

Best visited during the afternoon when the cafe hums gently with locals meeting or dropping in from nearby areas like Harlow or Bishop's Stortford. It’s a place where you can expect straightforward, freshly made food without fuss, small groups can be accommodated comfortably, and the pace encourages lingering over meaningful moments.

A little gem. Home made cakes are delicious. Love that the tea is served in a pot so you can at least get 2 cups out of it. Makes all the difference when you are going out for just afternoon tea and cake.

Ordered afternoon tea take away for 8 with vegan, Diary free etc. They catered for everyone's needs and feedback for diary free was best they ever had. We had so much food and it was all tasty. I'd use again, so much easier than going out. A big thank you.

Amazing owners, I was feeling unwell and they offered paracetamol’s. It’s very caring of them, I really appreciated it and it meant a lot to me. As always the service is first class, the food is great. I am very happy that they are here in Hatfield Heath.

Lovely cafe, the owners are very friendly and make the food to order. The specials menu changes with the seasons. Have had a fabulous quiche in the summer, straight out of the oven and hot chilli jacket potatoes in the winter. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend

What a total hidden gem of a place! We popped in after receiving a less than warm welcome somewhere else and we couldn’t have chosen a better spot. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. A quick lunch turned into a lovely few hours over delicious food and copious amounts of good tea. A place that happily refills your teapot with hot water more than once is a winner in my book. We had a couple of toasted sandwiches which were delicious and accompanied by a very appetising salad. The Lemon drizzle loaf was also very good. The couple that own the place couldn’t have been nicer. I will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend this place. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
